beaches, Tokerau Beach and Karikari Beach and 5 sheltered bays
- all sand beaches. Tokerau Beach where Sandhoppers is located
is a 14km long sand beach with plentiful shellfish (Tuatuas) for you to gather. Stunning Matai Bay is an easy 10-15 minute drive and a must
see - a double horseshoe bay, very sheltered and a popular
camping area. Apart from the road to Matai Bay, all roads are
sealed.
Kaitaia,
the closest main shopping area, is approximately 30km from
Tokerau Beach. The renowned 'Mangonui Fish Shop' is an easy 20
minute drive.
